Potomac River walk

The mission has been going great. We totally have our routine down for working at the Barlow Center in support of the interns. Our Institute classes have been going well. Rather than a "class" which connotes lecture with discussion, our classes are called "gatherings." The idea is that the content is learned not through lecture but by their own study during the week. In that way, gatherings are devoted almost entirely to discussion. We have been amazed at the students and how they share what they have learned during the week, ask questions, answer each others questions, share ideas on what has worked well for them, etc. It has been very enjoyable and we learn as well.

A couple weeks ago we stopped by Bolling AFB which is very close to DC (now called Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling). Most of our groceries when we lived in White Plains came from the commissary here. They have a great paved river walk along the Potomac River.

We overheard someone calling these marmots:

This looked like the turkey vultures we used to see in Petaluma.

Reagan airport is right across the river.

  1. I really liked what you said about your institute classes being called gatherings. That is the goal I believe of all of our courses of study in the church now. We are to be anxiously engaged ourselves in the learning process and then come together to share and learn from one another. I was just called to be one of the gospel doctrine teachers in our ward. However, the call is more like being called to be a discussion leader or facilitator. Thanks for sharing.

We are well. Jenn, Kris, and family are arriving here today for a visit. We look forward to being with them.
